Once upon a time, a Naval Officer (definitely a gentleman too) & Doctor fell in love with another Doctor. They really were the perfect blend of loveliness and planned the day they were to be husband and wife. Then a nasty bug swept across the country they put aside their plans and headed to the medical front line to battle for us. As the big day approached, like many broken-hearted couples, they realised that it could not go ahead as planned. Instead, we celebrated their would’ve been wedding day on Red Rocks, Wirral. Running through the sand, feeling the wind brush by their faces, they were just in love and completely grateful for each other. They saved me too that day, brought my creativity back alive doing what I love to do. So, when we postponed the wedding date a second time, I was still all in. Then a surprise call about bringing the wedding day forward to just before Christmas. The Britannia Royal Naval College offered to marry them in the Chapel situated there. Could I travel to Dartmouth and share the day with them? Zero Hesitation.
The morning of the big day the bridal party were readying themselves in the guest lounge at Dartington Hall. Because of this unusual year and the restrictions against gatherings, Talek & Hana’s wedding would be intimate, and they would be making some traditions of their own. Ill not lie, I was fuming about the wind and rain, the weather forecast wasn’t pretty. Thank god Hana is, her gorgeous smile is all the sunshine you could need. Surrounded by her gorgeous friends I could see why loved them so much. Everything was under control and we didn’t give a flying unicorn about the rain, this was going to be a magical day. And it was.
Talek and the groom party were wearing the most fabulous colourful shirts with pieces of traditional South African fabric stitched into the back, they were incredible. The boys may have been a little nervous, but you’d never have known. Talek and Hana decided that they would do a ‘first look’ on their ‘newly revised’ wedding day. They would be marrying late in the afternoon and aware that we will have lost most of the light for their couple portraits; So, to get the couples portrait shots they wanted, I met the handsome groom in his Naval Officers Uniform and our Bride Hana, looking breath-taking in her stunning off the shoulder lace mermaid bridal gown, in the garden. There wasn’t a dry eye between us. We stopped for a delicious lunch at The White Hart at Dartington Hall, and Hana was surprised with a Beaufort Vintage Car to take her to the Chapel at Britannia Royal Naval Academy. It felt like a dream, the ceremony was so beautiful and meaningful, and my favourite Louis de Bernieres reading from Captain Corelli’s Mandolin. I cried again.
The newly married couple left the chapel under a Guards Honour, and out onto the front of the College Building which was simply magnificent. Overlooking the harbour, it’s a setting to be admired and celebrated. We had just the wedding party to do that. We grabbed the fading rays of sunlight out front defying the 100% rain forecast and wondering where it had run off to. After champagne and sunset, we all returned to Dartington Hall which was decorated so incredibly beautifully, by the wedding party, with the most incredible floral bunting, arrangements (Claire your creations were stunning, made with love) and twinkle lights, handmade woven gift boxes and beaded bird of paradise napkin holders. It was a feast for the eyes and like everything else in that room, Made with Love. Thank you both for your faith in me, for letting me share this day with you and for making me feel like part of the family. I wish you both so much love, luck, good health, wealth and all the happiness your hearts can hold. Much Love, Lisa x TO DOWNLOAD THE IMAGES FROM THE BLOG PLEASE CLICK HERE
