Im a sucker for a good love story and Jim & Sue’s has been a long time in the making. They Met almost 20 years ago and at the time both had two young boys from their previous relationships and quite simply they fell head over heels for each other. Building their blended families seamlessly and beginning their lives together. After all these years they finally decided (probably with a lot of help and encouragement from their children and grandchildren) to make it official and really celebrate just how much they love each other.
We met over our mutual love of Kefalonia and they proudly displayed the story of love, on the entrance table to their venue. The epic excerpt from Captain Correlli’s Mandolin by Louis de Bernieres. Nothing describes their love quite like this.
‘Love is a temporary madness, it erupts like volcanoes and then subsides. And when it subsides you have to make a decision. You have to work out whether your roots have so entwined together that it is inconceivable that you should ever part. Because this is what love is.
Love is not breathlessness, it is not excitement, it is not the promulgation of promises of eternal passion. That is just being in love, which any fool can do. Love itself is what is left over when being in love has burned away, and this is both an art and a fortunate accident.
Those that truly love have roots that grow towards each other underground, and, when all the pretty blossoms have fallen from their branches, they find that they are one tree and not two.’
These two have plenty of blossoms left on their branches , and on this sunny day in April, with all the beauty of a spring day, Sue and Jim pledged their love for each other in front of all those who mean the most to them. It was so much fun being around their gorgeous families, who instantly treated me like I was a long lost friend. The happy couple chose my favourite colour, yellow, to take centre stage in their venue dressing to compliment the stunning shades of silver and grey. It was perfect and so in keeping with the time of year. They pledged their love for each other at the incredible Statham Lodge Hotel, its such a wonderful place and the service and surroundings are second to none.
Their delicately decorated lemon and ivory iced wedding cake was supplied by Greenhalgh’s Bakery and looked so bright and beautiful in the perfectly dressed venue. The flowers and table décor centrepieces were created by Living Colour in Stockton Heath and tied the design of the day together perfectly. Sue wore the most stunning strapless silk wedding gown with a crystal organza overlay from Natalie Ann Brides and her bridesmaid wore a pretty pastel lemon chiffon gown with lace overlay and maid of honour wore a beautiful matching grey gown.
Ive never seen a couple smile as much as these two did on their wedding day. Sue literally floated down the aisle on the arm of her proud dad and seeing Jim’s face was absolutely priceless. Their blended families and friends were literally beaming with happiness that finally these two were husband and wife. I absolutely loved every minute, sharing the tears, the laughter, the love and the long awaited union of two people, who after 20 years are still head over heels in love. That is all I ever want to photograph and this couple gave it in bucketloads. I want to wish Sue and Jim the most wonderful of honeymoons, I hope its as special and wonderful as you both are. Much Love, Lisa xx
