When I first met Michael and Claire we just clicked, really down to earth, lovely family orientated couple, so when they asked me to photograph their wedding in London I didn’t hesitate in saying yes. So we set off the day before, planning a little stop over close to the venue so we arrived at the wedding the next morning fresh and ready to rock. We met Claire at the Radisson Blu Edwardian, close to Heathrow airport. Claire is a self confessed tom boy, not one for frilly dresses makeup and faff, but today she was going to blow the rules out of the water, because she was marrying her soul mate, and she wanted to knock his socks off. So with hairdresser, makeup artist and stunning vintage lace gown at the ready she slowly transformed into the beautiful stunning butterfly I saw in her at our first meeting. She looked amazing, despite the plea’s of ‘I don’t do false eyelashes’ and ‘I don’t do dresses’, she did it all. The blinged-up converse wedding pumps were the only remnants of her former self, if she was going to wear a dress, by god she was going to have comfortable shoes. So surrounded by her beautiful children Mark and Maisie, Claire bravely took the arm of her brother in law and walked her last walk as a single woman. Michael awaited his bride at the stunning Q Vardis Mallard Suite, with its stunning onsite Chapel in breathtaking gardens, surrounded by the river and Little Britain Lake. When we met Michael and his beautiful family we were instantly taken into the fold, like long lost family. It felt like coming home, and I knew it was going to be an incredible unforgettable day. It was a truly emotional journey for Claire, understandably as she was marrying her prince without her mum and dad by her side, but the bouquet charms in memory of them were close to Claire’s hand. I have no doubt they were in the room with us all, watching over the celebration with immense pride and joy. The weather forecast warned of storms, the remnants of a hurricane and lots of rain. What we experienced was a little bit of rain during the ceremony and the rest of the time was fluffy white clouds and big blue skies (I have no doubt that Claire’s parents were making sure their daughter’s day was as perfect as it could be). You could see the love in Michaels eyes as he saw his bride for the first time, overwhelmed at just how breathtaking she looked. From the moment they both said ‘I Do’ the party really got started. Traditional Portuguese family hospitality was in ample supply. Surrounded by the people that they loved most in the world Claire and Michael just immersed themselves in the love that was so noticeable, it was almost tangible. As the party continued into the evening we even danced on the dance floor with the guests, photographing as we went, it was amazing. We were sad to leave, but we had a long journey home ahead of us. So Claire & Michael we would like to thank you for letting us share your beautiful day and for making us honorary family members. We cannot wish you both enough happiness and a beautiful married life together filled with love, family and an abundance of happiness.
